SEM presents CORE, a new furniture collection designed by Hannes Peer, unveiled through the HARDCORE installation at Spotti Milano. CORE is a collection rooted in the essence of solid wood: structure and surface coincide, with no veneers or applied elements. Wood is treated as substance, not as cladding. Mass, grain, density, and proportion define each piece, affirming its presence with clarity and restraint. Developed in dialogue with Claudio Spotti, co-founder of SEM – Spotti Edizioni Milano, the project reflects Peer’s background as both architect and maker, merging construction knowledge with material integrity. References range from Pierre Chapo to Barbara Hepworth, Leroy Setziol, Stephan Balkenhor, and Louise Nevelson. In CORE, carving becomes an architectural gesture: bas-reliefs and incisions on geometric volumes generate depth and tactile tension. The process combines digital precision and hand-finishing, balancing rigor and unpredictability while highlighting the natural variations of the wood.
