Calico Wallpaper & Stephen Burks Man Made present Particulaire
Calico Wallpaper Introduces Particulaire by Stephen Burks, a Collection that Pays Homage to Diff erent Cultures and Experiences
Particulaire Weaves Together a Global Tapestry of Stories, Celebrating a Unique Way of Being Inspired by Travel
Calico Wallpaper is pleased to present Particulaire, a wallpaper collection designed in collaboration with internationally recognized American designer Stephen Burks and his partner Malika Leiper at Stephen Burks Man Made. Inspired by the objects collected during one’s travels, Particulaire serves as a gateway to diff erent places, cultures, and experiences.
The objects highlighted in this collection’s composition are more than mementos; the pieces collected through their own travels tell a shared narrative of global interconnectedness. Through a synthesis of art, craft, and community, Particulaire expresses a vision of design that is inclusive of all cultural perspectives and backgrounds. Stephen Burks describes his pluralistic design method, noting “My aim is to develop projects that bridge the gap between authentic world production, industrial manufacturing, and contemporary design.” Burks continues, “I’ve had the honor of working with artisans all over the world. Throughout these travels, I collect everything, especially the design objects of my collaborators. I love living with other people’s work and craft traditions. This passion has, ultimately, inspired the curation and development of Particulaire.”
Through Particulaire, Stephen Burks Man Made have been able to further their approach of working across disciplines. In this collection, they continue merging their own industrial design practice with craft, while advocating for diversity in design. With every bespoke composition of objects, the collection activates the potential of each person who interacts with the wallpapers in a personal, meaningful way.
An avid admirer of Stephen and Malika’s lifestyle and practice , Rachel Cope, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Calico Wallpaper, opens up about the design process behind the collection, explaining, “It’s been a true pleasure to create this work of art with Stephen and Malika, especially one that explores a deep-rooted ethos in their practice.” Cope expands, “Stephen’s approach is uniquely inspiring and rare, in that his entire body of work seeks to champion, and sustain cultural and generational craft techniques. I’m honored to be a part of this collection and to partner with Stephen and his team to bring it to life. Working on Particulaire has given me a whole new understanding of what it means to collect.”
Particulaire is available in ten colorways: Artifact, Bazaar, Caravan, Journey, Keepsake, Memento, Nomadic, Nostalgic, Origin, and Trove. Calico Wallpaper is printed on PVC-free clay-coated paper. Calico Wallpaper employs advanced technologies to translate the designs to be utilized for their new ordering system, Panorama. This streamlined process maintains the custom nature that the brand is known for allowing for a more effi cient ordering process to reduce lead-time to as little as four weeks. Particulaire will be available for purchase and sample orders as of April 8, 2025 through
