BBA Studio presents Infill Heritage
On the occasion of Fuorisalone 2025, the spaces of BBA Studio will host Infill Heritage, an installation conceived and created in synergy with the new research lab, BBOfficina.
The project aims to establish a connection between Milan’s 20th-century architectural tradition and contemporary design methodologies based on tools such as parametric modeling and 3D printing.
The installation explores the transformation of geometries through the digital reinterpretation of decorative patterns derived from architectural elements found in Piero Portaluppi’s drawings, generating a new visual outcome. Thanks to 3D printing technology, which optimizes material usage while ensuring the solidity of the finished piece, it has been possible to intervene in the aesthetics of this structural element, called Infill. The textures inspired by Portaluppi have been integrated into this layer, creating an interaction between different semantic levels: from ornament to structural infill, from the functional optimization of machine-generated material to the imposition of an independent aesthetic language, thus giving a new identity to the technical component.
The installation, composed of a multitude of 3D-printed elements, will be arranged in an elliptical volume at the center of the room, allowing visitors to walk through and observe it from carefully designed viewpoints to appreciate its formal evolution. Thanks to a meticulous lighting design, the installation will offer an immersive experience, emphasizing the transition between past and future.
BBO has developed the initiative in collaboration with leading partners: iGuzzini for lighting, Modar for structure and setup, BigRep and MakeAdditive for 3D printing support, and Superforma for post-installation material recycling, with the goal of developing a new project based on the reuse of 3D-printed materials.
The event will take place at BBA Studio, located at Via Alessandro Stradella 5, Milan. A dedicated room will host the storytelling of the installation.
